On May 24, 2010, the Michigan Civil Rights Commission passed a resolution on the right to counsel.

 

In March 2009, Dawn Van Hoek of the State Appellate Defender Office published a white paper entited "Penny-Wise and Pound Foolish," discussing the cost savings of an effective public defense system.

On July 10, 2008, the Campaign for Justice and the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan hosted a joint meeting, featuring Director Nicholas Chiarkas, Deputy Director Kelli Thompson of the Wisconsin State Public Defender Office and Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm.
